Colombia is the number one destination for bird watchers. In no other country has such a high number of species been recorded, as many as one fifth of the birds existing on the entire planet in just 1,000,000 km2. Colombian geography is extremely diverse: from east to west it extends from the Orinoco River to the Pacific Ocean and from north to south from the Caribbean to the headwaters of the Amazon basin. The Andes are made up of three main mountain ranges separated by the Cauca and Magdalena valleys.
