A slab of Welsh slate is set into the floor in front of the high altar in the abbey church of St Albans. Dedicated in 1979, it bears an inscription commemorating the abbots whose remains lie buried beneath it and who presided over St Albans's glorious period of medieval book production. Lasting Letters gives a brief outline of the abbey's history, tells the story of the abbots' reinterment and provides insights into the production of the memorial's calligraphic design.
