Responsorial settings have become an established way of singing the psalms in a way that involves everyone. A cantor is central to this style and can easily deliver large amounts of text quickly and with sensitivity. A response which a congregation can learn quickly, even on one hearing, can facilitate a spontaneous moment of creativity in our worship. For many years, Robert Fielding wrote responsorial psalm settings for the choir and congregation at Romsey Abbey, Hampshire in the UK. Most of these settings have been 'road tested' and they will hopefully provide an additional option to those who use the psalms in this way.
