The city is controlled by an authoritarian dictatorship, while beyond the city barriers lies a barren desert that reaches across the vast continent of America.Dina is a struggling artist, living on the outskirts of the city, near the dome barrier that protects the city from the outside world.The barrier also keeps all citizens trapped within and prevents open communication with the people living in other cities. She meets Ben, a drifter, hiding from the authorities in a shed in her back garden.In the year 148 (2255 in the old calendar system) vagrancy, or 'Drifting' as it is known, is illegal. If caught, drifters are taken away, never to be seen again, and nobody knows where they are taken and what happens to them.Dina and Ben form an unlikely bond of friendship, but can they survive the city forces marshalled against them, bent on their destruction?This novel explores a possible scenario of life in a post-apocalyptic era. Cast yourself forward a few centuries and imagine a culture that has been shaped by the horrific tragedies of the past and the harsh conditions of the present.
