David Foster Wallace (Ithaca, Nueva York, 21 de febrero de 1962 – Claremont, California, 12 de septiembre de 2008) fue un escritor y profesor estadounidense, reconocido por su estilo denso y análisis satírico de la cultura contemporánea. Su obra abarca novelas, relatos cortos y ensayos que exploran las complejidades de la sociedad moderna.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran "La broma infinita" (1996), una novela posmoderna considerada por la revista Time como una de las 100 mejores novelas en lengua inglesa entre 1923 y 2006; "Entrevistas breves con hombres repulsivos" (1999), una colección de relatos; y "Algo supuestamente divertido que nunca volveré a hacer" (1997), una recopilación de ensayos. Su novela póstuma, "El rey pálido" (2011), fue finalista del Premio Pulitzer de Ficción en 2012.
