Actualmente reside entre Estambul y Londres, donde compagina su carrera literaria con colaboraciones en prensa. Escribe tanto en turco como en inglés, abordando en sus obras temas como la identidad cultural, la memoria histórica y el papel de la mujer en sociedades islámicas. Su novela más celebrada, La bastarda de Estambul, explora la complejidad de la historia turca desde una perspectiva contemporánea.
