Surgical adhesives are attractive alternatives to sutures and staples. New tissue adhesives offer many of the advantages of the ideal wound closure devices. They have previously been shown to be inexpensive and painless, and have antimicrobial activity against gram- positive organisms. It has been shown that they have a low rate of scarring and provide excellent cosmetic results. Its main advantage is the avoidance of suture removal. Other superior aspects of adhesives are the wound dressing effect of the product, which allows for minimal wound care and the possibility of rapid postoperative feeding, very low infection rate, less operating time, less scaring, no needle sticks / sutures hence called as child friendly, no sutures to be removed. The rate of complications has been minimal and the resultant scars are cosmetically pleasing. Doctors basically use the surgical glue / tissue adhesives to close both major and minor wounds. Hence it can be said that the use of tissue adhesives is simple, safe, rapid, and effective in maxillofacial surgical procedures.
