Dave Thompson (nacido el 4 de enero de 1960) es un escritor inglés reconocido por su prolífica producción literaria, con más de 100 obras publicadas que abarcan principalmente la música rock y pop, además de cine, deportes, filatelia, numismática y erótica. En la década de 1980, colaboró regularmente en revistas como Melody Maker y Record Collector, y ha contribuido en publicaciones como Mojo, Q y Rolling Stone.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran: "U2: Stories for Boys" (1985), la primera biografía de la banda U2; "Moonage Daydream" (1987), sobre David Bowie; "The Psychedelic Furs: Beautiful Chaos" (2004); y "London's Burning: True Adventures on the Frontlines of Punk, 1976–1977" (2009). Su obra "Sombra y luz: La historia del rock gótico" ha sido traducida al español como "Sombra y luz: La historia del rock gótico".
