When a sports journalist is found dead, after being disgraced for ruining an athlete'scareer with a sensational doping story that turned out to be fake, Leo smells a rat.  Did the journo take an overdose, or were his drugs tampered with?

Then things get properly sporting. A determined DI is killed by a javelin. A political fixer meets her end via a discus. A newspaper editor narrowly avoids being flattened by a shot put. Who but an athlete would employ such odd weapons to murder? But athletes are good sports, surely?

Leo and his fearless poodle Pumpernickel go into battle on behalf of the victims of these outrages. Aided by his granddaughter Jazz, old pal and crime reporter Dennis, and the calming influence of his therapist partner Marion, Leo uncovers a scandal that proves some people in sport really don't know how to play nicely.
