John Wagner (nacido en 1949 en Pensilvania, EE. UU.) es un prolífico guionista británico de cómics, reconocido por su influencia en la historieta británica. Aunque nació en Estados Unidos, se trasladó a Escocia a los doce años. Inició su carrera en la editorial D.C. Thomson & Co. a finales de los años sesenta y, junto a Pat Mills, creó en 1976 al icónico personaje Juez Dredd para la revista 2000 AD.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran "Juez Dredd" (1976), "Perro de Estroncio" (1980) y "Robo-Hunter" (1978), todas en el género de ciencia ficción. Además, coescribió "La decimotercera planta" (1984) y "The Last American" (1990), ambas en colaboración con Alan Grant. Su novela gráfica "Una historia de violencia" (1997) fue adaptada al cine por David Cronenberg.
