José Silva nació en Texas en 1914 y murió en 1999. Desde los años cuarenta se dedicó a la investigación de la mente, sus procesos y posibilidades. Puso especial atención en el cociente intelectual, los ritmos cerebrales, el biofeedback, las técnicas de meditación y relajación, la hipnosis y la parapsicología. El Método Silva de Control Mental, producto de esas investigaciones, fue hecho público en 1966, con gran repercusión dentro y fuera de Estados Unidos, ya que se tradujo a más de treinta idiomas.
