I was a young girl wanting nothing more than to be loved. From an early age, until I found recovery, my voice was silent, unless I was drunk and angry. I became violent. I became someone I hated, but also someone who realized that I had the gift of being a woman. I used that to empower myself. After 20-plus years of addiction, I wanted to change my life and do right by my children. The road to recovery was a winding one. I am still working on me and being the best that I can be. (About the Author) Desnee Trevena grew up in Toronto, Canada, where she works in social services, helping abused women and children. She is also an advocate for people with addictions and facilitates community healing circles. This is her first book.
