The words we use in everyday language have two possible outcomes. They either support recovery from disease and illness or they sustain it. Language of Recovery identifies the specific words and phrases we use in everyday speech that undermine recovery from disease. Better yet, it celebrates the language that fosters and nurtures recovery. The true challenge as I see it is this: We are not even aware that our thoughts and beliefs are undermining our best intentions to recover from a chronic illness. We say to ourselves and to others that we are determined to get well, but a devious process is at work in our subconscious which undermines this intention. How do we get our subconscious thinking to reveal itself? After all, it is not conscious! The solution is to identify specific words that we use in everyday language that do reveal our true beliefs and thoughts. For example, have you ever said to someone else that you "hope" to recover from your illness or that your wish is to see that your symptoms do not get worse? This language limits the extent to which you believe you have any chance to recover.Language of Recovery supports the journey back to health and wellness by illustrating language that undermines our best intentions to recover from a chronic illness. Once language is in concert with our true intentions, a successful journey down the road to recovery can be launched.
