Reseña del libro "Peak Humanity (en Inglés)"

PEAK HUMANITY asks why a world that became dramatically more capable, connected and convenient also became harder to inhabit on human terms. People now entering adulthood did not choose permanent connectivity, algorithmic attention, frictionless consumption, blurred work-life boundaries, or a social world mediated by feeds. They inherited them. To anyone in their twenties or thirties, these systems can feel less like technologies than like weather: simply the conditions in which life takes place. PEAK HUMANITY gives those readers something unusually powerful: a recent past close enough to compare with the present, yet different enough to show that many features of modern life are not inevitable. The 1990s are not presented as a golden age. They are the control group ― a period in many wealthy democracies when technology was already expanding human capability, but had not yet fully colonized attention, work, relationships, private time, consumption, community, and meaning. The book asks a deceptively simple question: what if the last three decades made our systems dramatically better at functioning while making human beings progressively worse at living inside them? On New Year's Eve 1999, a family in a suburban house raised glasses engraved with the year 2000 and toasted a future they were certain would be better than the past. They had reason to believe it. The economy was expanding, democracy was spreading, the internet still felt like a tool rather than an environment, and work usually ended when people left the office. The future seemed to promise more capability without demanding a different way of being human. They were right that the future would become more powerful. They were wrong about what that power would do to everyday life. Read more
