Escritor americano, James Dashner estudió en la Universidad Brigham Young, en Utah. Dashner se inició en la literatura profesional como un medio de complementar su trabajo habitual, publicando primero cuentos y luego pasando a la novela.

Tras varias series que no llegaron a alcanzar demasiado éxito, Dashner dio la campanada dentro de la fantasía juvenil al comenzar a publicar la saga El corredor del laberinto, una obra distópica que fue publicada a nivel internacional.
