Naomi Klein nació el 8 de mayo de 1970 en Montreal, Canadá, en el seno de una familia de activistas políticos. Su infancia estuvo marcada por el compromiso social y la creatividad: su abuelo fue animador en Disney y sindicalista, y sus padres emigraron a Canadá desde Estados Unidos en protesta por la guerra de Vietnam. Klein estudió filosofía y literatura en la Universidad de Toronto, aunque abandonó temporalmente la carrera para trabajar como periodista en The Globe and Mail

Klein es una de las voces más influyentes del pensamiento crítico contemporáneo, reconocida por su análisis del poder corporativo, la globalización y la crisis climática. Su obra combina el periodismo de investigación, el ensayo y la denuncia social, abordando temas como el capitalismo de marca, el neoliberalismo, la manipulación mediática y la justicia climática. Ha sido profesora universitaria, columnista en medios internacionales y codirectora del Centre for Climate Justice en la Universidad de Columbia Británica.
