Oliver Napoleon Hill nació el 26 de octubre de 1883 en Wise County, Virginia, Estados Unidos. Creció en una familia humilde y enfrentó una infancia difícil tras la muerte de su madre, pero su perseverancia y ambición lo llevaron a convertirse en uno de los autores más influyentes del género de autoayuda y desarrollo personal del siglo XX.

Hill comenzó su carrera como reportero local y, según su propio relato, fue encargado de entrevistar a Andrew Carnegie, quien supuestamente le confió los principios del éxito. Aunque la veracidad de este encuentro ha sido cuestionada, Hill construyó su filosofía a partir de entrevistas y observaciones de figuras como Thomas Edison, Henry Ford y John D. Rockefeller. Su vida estuvo marcada por altibajos, incluyendo fracasos empresariales, acusaciones de fraude y reinvenciones personales, pero siempre mantuvo su mensaje de autosuperación y pensamiento positivo.
