Reseña del libro "UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE: Both Sides of the Coin (en Inglés)"

What happens when we look at the Bible from both sides? In the final book of the Understanding the Bible series, Bruno Marian invites readers to examine Scripture carefully, honestly, and without ignoring the difficult questions. Using the image of a quarter—with two distinct sides belonging to one coin—the author explores two realities found throughout the biblical record: God’s standards for how people should live and the honest account of how human beings actually lived. Drawing on more than a dozen Bible translations and using the King James Version for quotations, Marian examines the distinction between God’s words and human words recorded in Scripture. The Bible contains commandments, promises, warnings, prayers, and teachings, but it also records lies, accusations, mistakes, failures, and sinful choices. The book asks readers to consider who is speaking, what a passage actually says, and what it leaves unanswered. A central theme is the recurring appearance of the number 3 throughout Scripture. The author examines biblical examples ranging from Creation, Noah, and the patriarchs to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the apostles, and the early church. He also presents his interpretation of three broad periods of biblical history and describes the present age as the “Third Period.” The book also explores Free Will, faith, grace, human responsibility, the Ten Commandments, and the choices people make in response to God. Readers are encouraged to distinguish between what Scripture explicitly states and what comes from tradition, interpretation, or human assumptions. One of the book’s most challenging discussions concerns the biblical account of the conquest of Canaan. Marian presents his own conclusion that the command attributed to God was a human attribution that does not agree with his understanding of God’s character revealed through the commandments and Jesus. He explains his reasoning while emphasizing that his argument concerns the particular biblical account and is not an accusation against Jewish people as a whole. Throughout the book, the author returns to a central question: What will we do with the truth while we still have time? Understanding the Bible: Both Sides of the Coin is an invitation to read Scripture closely, ask honest questions, recognize human responsibility, and consider the call of Christ with greater attention.
