Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) fue una pintora mexicana reconocida por sus intensos autorretratos y su estilo único que fusiona el realismo, el simbolismo y el surrealismo. Nació en Coyoacán, Ciudad de México, y desde temprana edad enfrentó grandes dificultades: contrajo poliomielitis a los seis años y, a los 18, sufrió un grave accidente de autobús que marcó su vida y su arte. Durante su larga recuperación, comenzó a pintar autorretratos que reflejaban su dolor físico y emocional.

Se casó con el famoso muralista Diego Rivera en 1929, en una relación apasionada y tumultuosa. A lo largo de su vida, Frida expresó temas como la identidad, el sufrimiento, la maternidad frustrada y la cultura mexicana, influenciada por el arte popular y el folclore. Su obra más conocida incluye Las dos Fridas, La columna rota y Autorretrato con collar de espinas.

Aunque en vida no fue plenamente reconocida, su legado creció tras su muerte. Hoy es un símbolo del feminismo, la resiliencia y la libertad artística. Su casa, La Casa Azul, es ahora un museo dedicado a su vida y obra. Frida Kahlo dejó una huella imborrable en el arte y la cultura mundial.
