Robert Jordan, seudónimo de James Oliver Rigney Jr., fue un destacado escritor estadounidense nacido en Charleston, Carolina del Sur, el 17 de octubre de 1948. Es reconocido principalmente por su serie de fantasía épica "La Rueda del Tiempo", que comenzó con "El ojo del mundo" en 1990. Antes de dedicarse a la escritura, Jordan se graduó en física por The Citadel, una universidad militar de Carolina del Sur, y sirvió en el ejército de los Estados Unidos durante la guerra de Vietnam.

Además de "La Rueda del Tiempo", Jordan escribió varias novelas sobre "Conan el Bárbaro" en la década de 1980, contribuyendo al género de la fantasía heroica. Tras su fallecimiento en 2007, el autor Brandon Sanderson completó los últimos volúmenes de "La Rueda del Tiempo" basándose en las notas que Jordan dejó.
