Large pieces of equipment and other materials started disappearing; strange creatures were seen slinking around the excavation site in the dark of the night; and then a man was found dead, seemingly cut in half by some kind of "force beam." It soon became apparent that Rawson and his crew had disturbed an ancient horror from deep inside the Earth. Even worse, these horrible creatures seemed dead set on invading the surface world! This grand science fiction novel was originally serialized over four issues of the classic pulp magazine, Astounding Stories, in the June, September, November 1932, and January 1933 editions.
